South Sac Celebrates 50th

Frank Cook Awarded Paul Harris

Frank Cook was awarded his first Paul Harris Fellow Award at our April 27 meeting. Frank (left) is shown in the picture above receiving his award from District Governor Brian Moore.

Sprucing Up the YMCA on All Rotarian Work Day

South Sacramento Rotarians gathered early Saturday morning to spruce up the children's area at the YMCA. Painting, sweeping, and cleaning were all part of the morning's activities.

Welcome New Member Dave Lambros

South Sacramento Rotary welcomed Dave Lambros into membership on Monday, March 30. Retired from law enforcement, Dave has continued officiating college and high school sports, a role he began in 1982, and today officiates high school basketball and PAC-10 football. Recognizing Youth

On successive Mondays, South Sacramento Rotary recognized achieving youth. On March 23, Peng Xiong of Luther Burbank High School (pictured left with JR Springer) was recognized as the Student of the Month. A graduating senior, Peng hopes to one day become a nurse. On March 30, Elika Bernard (pictured right with Toni Newman) received as award as Sacramento City College's Champion. She is headed for William Jessup University and hopes to go into education.

Speech Contest is a Success

South Sacramento Rotary ran its annual speech contest at its meeting on March 17. Using the theme "Make Dreams Real," three contestants competed for the cash prizes and the opportunity to advance to the district competition. McClatchy High School; and Nick Matthews, first place winner and a senior at C. K. McClatchy High School. Nick will compete in district level competition on Thursday, April 2.
